Growing up in a vibrant, protective and nurturing neighborhood on the west side of Detroit in the 80s sets the landscape for Ravenn L. Moore’s strong connection to ethos in her debut book, Sandpaper. A vivid dreamer, and out-the-box thinker, Ravenn began writing at a very early age, even selling such 3 or 4 sentence works to neighbors who willingly, and lovingly bought multiple pages for at least a quarter every time she knocked on their doors.
It was there, on the west side of Detroit, where Ravenn developed an eclectic mix of grit, emotional intelligence, a sense of community; love of self and community, and a relentless grind, all eloquently conveyed between the lines of every poem in Sandpaper.
Ravenn is a published journalist. During her undergraduate studies at The Ohio State University, Ravenn was a copy editor and wrote news articles for the student-run university newspaper, The Lantern. Ravenn has written over 300 news articles with the Gannett Newspaper, Palladium-Item.
